Fernando Maestú es investigador de neurociencia cognitiva. Su principal interés científico se centra en el estudio de la memoria humana y el olvido de los fenómenos. Su principal contribución es la descripción de los perfiles de conectividad funcional, durante el estado de reposo y las tareas de memoria utilizando magnetoencefalografía, en las primeras etapas de los fenómenos de demencia y plasticidad después del daño cerebral.
